Workshop: Using the REDS database for secondary data analysis
April 1, 2022 - Last update: April 14, 2022The IEA-ETS Research Institute (IERI) is organizing an Academy on conducting secondary data analysis using the REDS databases.
REDS, the "Responses to Education Disruption Survey", collected information from governments, school principals, teachers and students, on how each group responded to or was impacted by the school closures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. REDS covers several topics, including the disruption's impact on teaching and learning, student and teacher well-being, and persisting changes following the disruption, among others.
REDS was conducted by UNESCO and the IEA, in partnership with the European Commission (EC). Countries participating in REDS were Burkina Faso, Denmark, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Russian Federation, Rwanda, Slovenia, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, and Uzbekistan.
This Academy will be virtual and carried out over a two-week period using a combination of live presentations, online tutoring and support and online videos.
During the Academy we will describe the different components from REDS, the analysis methods and procedures applicable when analyzing these data, and software that has been developed to take into account the statistical complexities of working with these data.
Registration in the Academy will be limited to 30 participants.
The topics covered will be the following:
- Overview of REDS and available data
- Review of the questionnaires
- Sampling design issues and implications for the analysis
- Overview of sampling
- Sampling variance estimation
- Estimating sampling variance
- Using the IEA's IDB Analyzer to analyze the REDS database
- The Merge Module
- The Analysis Module (e.g. percentage, mean, correlation, regression, etc.)
